Southern Corrosion, Inc., was founded in 1983 with a new vision for the care and maintenance of water tanks…a vision founded in the principles of engineering, superior workmanship, and outstanding customer service. Our team creates customized water tank and water tower maintenance programs that provide better asset management, better cash flow, and better value for tank owners throughout the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast.
Water Tank Leadership
Jim Skilton has been Southern Corrosion’s President since 1989. He is a certified NACE Level 1 coatings inspector, and earned the designation of Protective Coatings Specialist from the Society for Protective Coatings (SSPC). Jim earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Delaware, and a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Campbell University. As part of his work, Jim teaches Engineered Tank Care™ seminars and continuing education classes.
Elbert Basolis is an expert in temporary water tank solutions and co-owner of Southern Corrosion. He is also CEO of Garrison Enterprises, a mechanical contracting company serving the water industry, an owner or active participant in at least six other complementary industrial businesses, and the Co-Chairman of the Board of Yardville National Bank, NA, which was recently purchased by PNC bank. Elbert splits his time between his home in New Jersey and his North Carolina based offices.

Ed SoltisOperations Manager
Ed Soltis is a certified NACE Level 1 coatings inspector and a SSPC C3 Supervisor for Deleading Industrial Structures. He specializes in surface preparation, water tower painting and minor repairs. He has been Southern Corrosion’s Manager of Operations since 2008.
Carl LynnWater Tank Inspections/Estimating
Carl Lynn estimates water tower maintenance costs and assists with proposals and water tank maintenance contracts. He originally began working for Southern Corrosion as a water tank inspector after taking a class taught by Jim Skilton. Carl is a Navy veteran with extensive experience in Business Administration and Industrial Systems Technology.
Eric DeMariaWater Tank Inspections
Eric DeMaria is a water tank inspector for Southern Corrosion. His territory includes the states of North Carolina, Virginia, and Florida. Eric’s areas of expertise include marine technology and building and construction.
Eric BarnesWater Tank Inspections
Eric Barnes joined the Southern Corrosion team in 2014 as a water tank inspector for the states of North Carolina and Virginia. Eric has a technical background in industrial maintenance and aluminum manufacturing.
Harry Skilton earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Drexel University, and is a Registered Professional Engineer in the states of New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. He has extensive experience in the design, fabrication, and construction of steel water tanks. Before becoming part of Southern Corrosion’s water tank maintenance engineering team, he worked for 10 years in the water tank building industry and 41 years in the water tank maintenance industry.
Michael Douglas is a Professional Engineer licensed in North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida and Alabama. He has extensive experience with public water supply systems and drinking water regulation. His previous work includes overseeing more than 600 water systems in 16 counties as a Regional Engineer. Michael is a North Carolina State University graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. He is one of our certified trainers in Engineered Tank Care water tank maintenance.
Frederic Gryckiewicz is a North Carolina licensed Professional Engineer. He is a graduate of the University of Connecticut with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering. Before joining the Southern Corrosion water tank maintenance team, Frederic worked in engineering management for 30 years.

Jim DotsonGeneral Sales Manager & Eastern NC Representative
Jim Dotson has extensive experience in water tank maintenance and systems. He joined Southern Corrosion in 1995, and is the second generation of his family to be part of the company. Jim is one of our certified trainers in Engineered Tank Care™ water tank maintenance.
Gavin DotsonWestern NC Representative
Gavin Dotson is NACE Level 2 certified and has experience in all aspects of water tank maintenance including water painting, water tank washouts, and sandblasting. He is a North Carolina native and a third generation member of the Southern Corrosion water tank maintenance team.
Brett WoodruffVA & WV Representative
Brett Woodruff has 30 years of experience in the water tank maintenance industry, and has been a member of the Southern Corrosion water tank maintenance team since 2005. Brett is a native of Richmond, Virginia, and a University of Richmond graduate.
Ron NorrisEastern SC Representative
Ron Norris has more than 20 years of experience in water tank maintenance, and is a member and past chair of the AWWA Distribution Committee and the WEA Association. Ron earned a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from Southern Polytechnic University in Marietta, Georgia. He is one of our certified trainers in Engineered Tank Care™ water tank maintenance.
Rich SkiltonPA, MD & DE Representative
Rich Skilton’s water tank maintenance expertise includes lead abatement for steel superstructures. He is the second generation of his family to work in the water tank maintenance business: his first job as a teenager was working on water tanks. He’s also one of our certified trainers in Engineered Tank Care™ water tank maintenance.
Jason PhillipsEastern KY, Eastern TN, Western SC & GA Representative
Jason Phillips has more than a decade of experience in water tank maintenance, and has been a part of the Southern Corrosion team since 2008. Jason is one of our certified trainers in Engineered Tank Care™ water tank maintenance. He’s also a West Virginia native and graduate of West Virginia University.
David Van DomelenFL & Southern AL Representative
David Van Domelen is a Michigan native with more than 20 years of experience in the water tank maintenance industry. He is a Michigan State University graduate who spent many years in Mississippi before joining the Southern Corrosion team in 2010.
Andy MorrisMS, Northern AL, Western TN & Western KY Representative
Andy Morris has been in the water tank maintenance industry for more than 15 years and has extensive experience with water tank maintenance contracts. He is a graduate of the University of Mississippi with a degree in Business Administration. Andy is one of our certified trainers in Engineered Tank Care™ water tank maintenance.

Lynne SkiltonDirector of Human Resources
Before becoming Southern Corrosion’s Director of Human Resources, Lynne Skilton worked as a school counselor, Assistant Principal, and as a child and family therapist. Lynne officially joined the Southern Corrosion tank maintenance team in October 2013, however she’s been part of the Southern Corrosion family since 1987, when she married President Jim Skilton.
Morgan BarnesAdministrative Financial Assistant
Morgan Barnes is the point of contact for Southern Corrosion’s Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable Departments. She is a second generation member of the Southern Corrosion water tank maintenance team, and an East Carolina University graduate with a degree in Criminal Justice.
Michelle FennellAdministrative Operations Assistant
Michelle Fennell works with Southern Corrosion’s Operations staff on contracts, proposals, and estimates, along with database and website maintenance. She is a longtime member of the Roanoke Rapids community and an East Carolina University graduate. Her expertise includes Information Technology and Data Management.
